This is new old stock left over from my retail store. This specialty axe is designed to create the mortise in tenon and mortise log construction. I sold several of these for use in timber and frame construction. The axe has a long, narrow head, making it easier to work on large logs. The shape enables you to hew a long way down into the notch, where otherwise you would have to use a chisel. The Mortise Axe makes the job faster and more efficient.The hickory handle on this axe is 19.5 inches long and is slightly knurled for control and utilizes their beeswaxed finished. The bit is 2 and 3/16 inches wideand 8 3/8 inches from the bit, (blade) to the squared poll. This axe was hand forged by Lennart Petterssoonn and carries his mark along with the crown mark for Sweden. This axe comes with a sheath and the Gransfor's Bruks Axe Book.
