This portable electric fence has a mild shock that protects a campsite from marauding bears. This item complies with government standards for bear-proofing campsites in certain designates areas. I purchased this item for a Smith River float in Montana and it made life so easy! Just put the fence up around the coolers and kitchen setup and you're ready to go hike or explore the area rather than mess with a bear hang or re-packing everything into a bear-proof lock box or cooler. If you do many multi-day river trips this thing is awesome and it makes camp life so much easier! I would rather have time to explore than mess with a bear hang (I've done more than my share and they can be tricky if the right trees aren't around). This fence has been erected 4 times so it's virtually new, and all of its components are included as well as the manual it came with. Well worth the money in my opinion.
