Description of Uncle Sam's Hat Walking Stick:"Uncle Sam's Hat" is a patriotic call to remember our nation's birthday. This is an example of one of my favorite flag art walking stick pieces. I wanted to see if I could inspire one's patriotic imagination of an American flag wrapped around a flag pole while topped with a replica of the Uncle Sam top hat originally created for a WWI US Army Recruiting Poster designed by James Montgomery Flagg in 1917. The carved stick is white pine. The top hat is carved from oak wood and permanently attached to the stick. The rubber gripper on the bottom has been fashioned from a bicycle tire. The paint is acrylic under a hard clear coat two part epoxy sealer that provides a protective non-yellowing finish along with resistance to chipping or cracking. Twenty of the current flag's fifty stars are partially or fully revealed using this carving pattern. The walking stick is 39” in length as originally completed, and the length may be shortened via a custom cut from the bottom if so desired. This piece is designed to be identified with American arts & crafts. It is handmade and a unique one of a kind rendering of the American southern highlands craft. I carve other pieces with the same or similar name; however, my document of authentication specifically identifies this piece uniquely by size, type and date of completion. This piece is dated July, 2015. When purchased a sealed Letter of Authentication accompanies the cane, both of which have been signed and dated by the artist.I have handcrafted cane designs for each of the four seasons as well as Christmas. These pieces make excellent indoor decorative accent pieces when collected as seasons change. Although my renderings have been designed to be functional walking sticks, these are not a medical devices, nor are they recommended as such.
