Foxhunter's antique cow horn flask and case
Estimated price for orientation: 600 $
Category: Other English Tack
Class:
Description
Flask and case of a size typically considered to be for a gentleman, but, hey, who am I to judge?
Inverted flask with bayonet cap.
Flask is made of cow horn with glass bottom and, I think, plated top. There are hallmarks but I do not recognize them as indicating Sterling.
I do not know the date of manufacture but it is consistent with products of the 1860s.
Engraved with RG on the top.
This flask does not leak. For your protection, I carried gin rickeys in it during cubbing season and never lost a drop.
The case is very old, though the straps are much newer replacements. The top of the case has a dent in it which you can see in the pictures. The straps can be moved so that the flask can be mounted on either side of your saddle. And the keeper designed to attach to your girth billets actually reaches the girth billets!
Cow horn. The thing is made of a cow's horn. How cool is that?
