Vintage Tilley Sportsman kit, X246 lantern, CS 56 stove, some spare parts, paper
Estimated price for orientation: 405 $
Category: Lanterns
Class:
Description Brand: Tilley Power Source: kerosene / parafin Type: Lantern & Stove Model: X246 / CS 56 MPN: Does Not Apply
A Tilley " Sportsmans Kit " circa 1956-60, consisting of a grey painted steel case holding a Tilley model X246 lantern and a scarce model CS 56 stove as well as a few spare parts and instruction sheets. Both lantern and stove lit easily and burned steady when tested. The lantern has a lot of chipping to the enamel, probably heat damage, no dents to the fount, plating is all good but could use a polishing, still has the Thacker decal, no date code, globe has no chips or cracks. The stove is in good condition, looks like it saw little use, the fount could use a polishing but has no dents, Thacker decal is gone, date code is " 10560 ", ( 1956 ? ). Includes the unused spare vapouriser for the lantern and the very scarce # 1560 vapouriser for the stove! ( photo 2 ), Also included is a reflector brim for the lantern. Unfortunatly, I believe the kit was stored in a damp basement for most of the last 50 years, the paper instruction sheets are in ratty condition as are the vapouriser boxes. The steel case has some degree of rust damage on all sides including some rust-thru on the base edge( photo 11 ), there are no holes into the case itself. I have seen photos of these cases with a large Tilley decal on the front panel, but this case shows no evidence of ever having one. The Kit measures 16-1/4" wide x 15" tall x 8-1/4" deep and weighs just over 22 lbs. I have more photos but only so much room in the listing, if you need more detail, contact me and I'll do what I can. I understand these kits are rare!
