The Hinterland Double Bit is reminiscent of bygone days, when felling axes spread across America during the 1800’s. The Double Bit quickly became a tool of necessity. A double bit advantage is having the ability to profile each blade differently, such as one edge for splitting and the other for cutting. Traditionally, one blade was commonly used in chopping undercuts for large timber to be felled, while the other was kept in reserve for fine cutting. The comfortable balance for the wielder makes this axe a capable and effective felling too. Each piece is handcrafted by Helko’s master smiths with over 170 years of expertise. Once the smith is satisfied with his work, the Helko crown is hammered into the cheek. No supplementary work, such as grinding, buffing, or painting is performed, thereby allowing each blade to proudly display its forging marks. As no two pieces are exactly alike, each axe is truly unique.HEAD
