Vintage / Antique - Fred Mueller Saddle  - Denver Colorado - Museum QualityIve seen others listed with the description stating "hard pressed to find a better one" well this is the one they were talking about. This has been sealed off in the attic of an original second generation gold prospector in Julian California for over 70 years (early 1940's) frozen in time and amazingly preserved considering the possibility of extreme temperatures in the mountians. We are not exactly sure of the year of manufacture on this one but have been purchasing and researching old Fred Mueller catalogs from 1941 as far back as 1925 so far and have been unsuccessful at finding an exact match, what we can tell is this was High End in those days and no wonder the one owner felt the need to take such great care of it, and the quality is astonishing even now, in today's standards a saddle like this would be well into the $4000 to $5000 range and I've seen even higher for less saddle with a good makers name, and Fred Mueller was well known as one of the best of his time. this one has very minimal wear marks to the stirrups, treads and rope hanging side or the pommel and one scratch to the seat that was my fault trying not to break any furniture while loading it up (this thing is heavy 36+ lbs) , the body leather is supple and solid no cracks anywhere, the strings however do show some age, a little cracking and could be replaced or left as is, the conchos are authentic Mexican 0720 - 70% silver coins, the tooling is extensive and exquisite, the rawhide braided horn is a piece of art in itself.  Saddle is very solid and could be used today and believe me I am tempted, the high back cantle seat is 14" with the initials "AES" engraved on the back, it has a 7" gullet, so Id say FQHB full quarter horse bars in today's measurements the fleece is real wool, thick and full only spots that are bare are from the saddle strings passing all the way through that was a standard practice, the tree is rock solid, the fenders are thick but flexible, includes latigo and billet the cinch holder has the number "27" and some that have seen this think that might be the year, I lean more toward that being the serial number or production number for this particular model. includes a matching breast collar. will be packed safe and shipped fast. worldwide upon requestfeel free to ask questions, make comments or observations, thanks for looking
