The Gränsfors Bruk Small Forest Axe is a classic tool of the outdoors, and remains the best-selling model from the revered Gränsfors range. Thanks in large part to its longstanding reputation for reliability, ease of use, and superb build quality it is arguably the most popular axe in the world.The Gränsfors Bruk Small Forest Axe features a larger head and longer handle than the Wildlife Hatchet and therefore provides more chopping power. When leather is processed, the hide is thick so they split it in layers like an onion. The best leather is the TOP or the first layer thereby called top-grain leather. Premium leather means that it is processed in a way that the coating and coloring of the leather is done in such a way that it resists being scratched and also is easy to clean. Therefore premium top-grain leather is the best type of leather that you can get and it is only surpassed by 'select top-grain leather' where each hide is physically inspected for every little imperfection. They use 'select top-grain leather' in expensive cars like a Ferrari for example.Non-premium leathers may be scratched easily. If you run your fingernails on a leather that is not premium grade you can visibly see the scratch caused by your fingernail.My suggestion on how to wrap the neck of your axe: Unwrap the long 3M Temflex 1100 tape that is provided from the rubber strip and set it aside. Next unwrap the two short 3M Temflex 1100 tapes that are provided from the rubber band tubes and set them aside.Use the rubber band strip as a base wrap first by wrapping the neck of the handle with it. Finish tying off the end of the rubber strip using one of the short 3M Temflex 1100 tape. The rubber base helps to prevent the wood from getting wet even if the leather gets wet. It will also act as a cushion to absorb some of the impact of mishits and helps to prevent the leather wrap from getting damaged. Next, use the leather wrap on top of the rubber strip base. Overlap edges of the leather as you wrap the neck of the handle. This will double the thickness of the leather for better protection. It will also give better traction and grip which helps to prevent slippage when using your axe or hatchet. Finish tying off the end of the leather wrap using the other short 3M Temflex 1100 tape. Use one of the rubber band tubes to cap the end of the leather wrap to finish the wrapping process. About two third of the rubber band tube should be on the leather and about one-third on the wood. Once the rubber band tube is in place use the long 3M Temflex 1100 to wrap the top edge of rubber band tube. About two-thirds of the tape should be on the rubber band tube and one-third on the leather wrap.
