The X Alp is a relatively lightweight mountaineering boot, at about 2.5 pounds per pair, but it packs tons of support, protection, and comfort into its relatively slim package. The upper, made from tough and waterproof leather and Cordura, resists abrasion from rocks, ice, and crampons, and the textile lining helps wick moisture away from your feet to maintain a dry, comfortable, and blister-free microclimate around your feet. Even better, the upper is laminated to a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane so extended time in the snow won't lead to wet feet, which can in turn lead to more serious issues than just discomfort--frostbite's really not fun.To keep rogue snow, ice, and debris out, Salomon topped the X Alp off with a stretchy hook-and-loop gaiter and gusseted tongue to form a snug seal around your ankle and forefoot, which is finished with the boot's self-locking eyelets for easy fit adjustment and a pinch-free fit.
