This is probably the most beautifully made early 20th century side saddle outfit I have ever seen, and in fabulous condition too. One could ride in it easily, and show as well. The linen (yes, real heavy grade ivory linen, never seen today) is perfect, and the seams are taped and welted, and all intact. All buttons are there and all match, both on the split skirt and the long jacket. No stains or issues of any kind. The tag was in the jacket pocket. All handwritten: STERN ADLER RIDING SUIT/ size 18 (don't panic) and the verso: Price 16.50/ 4-26-15/ 6506. I dated the suit at 1915 but it could well have been made earlier. Stern Adler was a quality maker of equestrian attire and accessories.I usually wear a size 10-12 (am 5'7" and weigh 125 lb., with long arms). The suit jacket fits well, the sleeves are perfect, but the front of the jacket is a tad long, probably fine on a sidesaddled horse. Armpit to armpit across chest-18". Sleeve-24". Collar to bottom of back -32".
Skirt is a bit long for me too but the rest is fine and feels very comfortable
(waist-28" & length down front panel 40"). The suit is so well made- and it could be altered to fit a side saddle rider with little effort. The linen irons well and is not weak or damaged. The outfit is very clean (maybe never worn?)Mailed USPS. Thank you for viewing the auction.
