A simple, single wall design, very light weight, and roomy interior make it an excellent adjunct to other tents or as the sole shelter on any trip. Its center-plus-sidewall-support structure provides full standing height in the middle and full sitting height along the side walls, so while it sleeps 6 or more, it can readily seat 12 or more around its perimeter. The Altai is most suited to below tree line and in more protected terrain, but it can also stand up to harsh weather year 'round. And, because its center and its sidewalls can be supported by poles - or by skis or the like for the center, or trekking poles for the sides - as well as by suspending them, the Altai is quite adaptable to any trip or terrain. The Altai XP is made with Hilleberg's Kerlon SP, an exceptionally stout polyester fabric boasting a minimum tear strength of 15 kilos. The XP version is a better choice for more demanding trips, as its fabric is stronger. It also features larger gauge zippers and sturdy fittings.
