Trail Boss Wood & Pellet Camp Stove Stove Only You are purchasing only the stove,legs, 80" of pipe, burner & hopper. Pellet stoves will not burn above 8000 feet, there is not enough oxygen in the air. Pellet stoves and altitude. It has come to our attention from our customers that our pellet stoves do not work properly above 8,000 feet in altitude. We have determined the problem to be not enough oxygen in the air at that altitude. The pellet burning only stoves cannot draw enough oxygen to make them work; the wood/pellet stoves do a little better but still have a problem when you reach a certain altitude. Therefore Riley Stoves does not recommend using their pellet burning stoves above this altitude. We recommend that if you camp a lot around this altitude and want a pellet stove that you purchase a wood/pellet combination so that if your pellet stove does not burn properly at your higher camp sites you will have the option to burn wood. There is no problem in burning wood at any altitude. Pellets however need lots of draft and oxygen to burn properly. How much heat does a pellet stove put out? We do not have the capability to measure BTU’s, however we can put a thermometer on the surface of our stoves. A Wrangler wood/pellet stove burning pellets will produce a surface temperature of 1180 degrees at 3800 feet in altitude; of course as with any stove the higher you go the less heat your stove will produce because there is less oxygen. The Trail Boss is light weight (only 60 lbs.) sturdy and compact, the legs are easily removed for transport. The fire box measures 18" W x 28" L x 13" H (with a 5" chimney hole).
