Spawned from the heart of Arizona's Sonoran desert all of my custom-made hikers are crafted from the exotic center spike of the rare Sotol “Desert Spoon” agave plant, found only in the high desert (3,500-5,000’). Extremely durable and lightweight, it will withstand most any abuse you can throw at it. Last summer we were inundated with ladybugs! So, in tribune to the little buggers I created this exceptional hiker. From tip to toe are an army of multi-colored ladybugs crawling and flying their way to swarm the compass, forming the four points of a compass. Embedded at the balance point is a grade AA 20 mm liquid-filled Brunton button compass to aid in pointing you to your next bearing. At both ends are metallic silver and gold depictions of grass from which the bugs bed. Near the top I decided not to cover a large hole, created by a tarantula wasp where it dug into the center a hollow more than a foot in length where it laid and hatched its eggs. I inserted a 3/8" dowel rod to reinforce this hole. At the tip is a gorgeous multi-colored Swarovski Rhinestones set around a rope berry concho. This beauty weighs in at a pound 11 ounces and comes to 4 feet 8-3/4 inches in length. The toe is reinforced with a 1/2 x 2 inch steel carriage bolt securing a 1-1/2 inch copper cap. The surface is protected with 4 coats of clear glass-like epoxy resin and polyamine hardener. And as in all of my hikers, you'll find the TK brand proudly displayed to signify its exceptional craftsmanship.
