The Exped Downmat Down-Filled Camping Mats are the perfect choice for camping in the winter period as they resolve common problems faced with normal camping mattresses. The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) has demonstrated the vast increase in heat retention in down insulation, so much so that these mats are even recommended for sleeping on snow. Testing proved that regular mats lose up to 3 times as much heat against cold ground as these Exped Downmats and the high R-value of 5.9, compared to 2.5 of a standard mat of the same weight, demonstrates their efficiency. Furthermore, the down insulation means compression of the mattress is far easier than with other insulated mats so it can be packed far smaller. The goose down used is specially treated to avoid the natural effects of humidity on the mat's interior. The exterior of the mat of laminated polyester gives durability on the bottom whilst the brushed polyester fabric on the top surface is comfortable against the skin.
