The Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe is an excellent all-round choice for woodworking in the outdoors. It features a larger head and longer handle than the Wildlife Hatchet model, and therefore provides more chopping power. However, the Small Forest Axe is still small enough to fit into a rucksack.

It will act as a cushion to absorb some of the impact of mishits and helps to prevent the leather wrap from getting damaged. Finish tying off the end using electrical or duct tape. Next, use the leather wrap. Overlap edges of the leather as you wrap. This will double the thickness of the leather for better protection. It will also give better traction and grip which helps to prevent slippage when using your axe or hatchet. Use the rubber band that came with it to finish. Once rubber band is in place, use the 3M Temflex tape to wrap top edge of rubber band. Half of the tape should be on the rubber band and half on the leather wrap.
